Where Does Our Help Come From?

I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)
It seems today that many believers may have forgotten this basic truth. We tend to look for help in all the wrong places. We seek it from our friends, our employers, our spouse, government and politicians and even from ourselves. In short, we seek help with all our needs from the world. Often we don’t even think of going to God and trusting Him to meet our needs (tiny or huge), choosing instead to try everything else first. And sadly, even when we do go to God for help, we don’t trust that He will answer.
A foundational truth of our faith is that our help comes from YHVH. Not from this world. Not from ourselves. Not from anything or anyone else. Scripture is full of promises from our Sovereign God, YHVH Tsavaot (“Supreme power over the hosts of heaven” - as He calls Himself multiple times in order to impress and underscore His authority and power over anything else), that those who turn to Him need not turn anywhere else. The psalmist underscores this by saying the obvious – YHVH made heaven and earth. That qualifies Him as able to meet your needs!
But turning to Him and laying our burdens upon Him is only the first step. If this is not accompanied with faith and trust that He is the all-powerful God able to do anything (and I do mean ANYTHING!!), and does indeed hear and answer prayer, we are merely wasting breath.

Do you need help? Have you tried getting it from the world? Is that working? Give it to God, and trust He has heard and will answer. Then wait and watch to see His hand at work. Expect to see Him work for you. Your help comes from “Melech HaOlam” - King of the Universe.
